The Beginning

Manco was started in 1964 by Virgil Manion and was purchased in 1972 by Chuck and Patricia Wyckoff. Chuck recognized the possibilities of CNC machines and was an early adopter of the technology in the Phoenix area. His spirit of innovation lives on at R&D today.

1984

A Merger

Chuck and Patricia started a sister company, R&D Specialty, to focus on research and development work for Garrett Engines. In 1987 the Wyckoffs sold Manco to a group of employees but continued to operate R&D Specialty. In 1990 the employees sold Manco back to Chuck and Patricia and they renamed the combined shops R&D Specialty/Manco.

1989

A Family Business

John Bloom, the current President and son-in-law of Chuck, started working at R&D Specialty/Manco as an apprentice. John was learning the aerospace industry by day and running a travel agency at night. John worked his way up to become the GM and brought his willingness to get the job done, doing everything from being the truck driver, purchasing, quoting, sales, assembly, and cleaning the bathrooms.

Location Change

R&D Manco moved to our current facility. John’s experience in doing all the jobs in the shop gives him great insight on how to get things done. He believes strongly in persistence and perseverance, overcoming trials and challenges, being nimble and flexible, and doing what’s right for the customer. His experience in the travel industry is what drives our customer service.
